By Shamiso Mahomva, Project Officer, African Crossroads, Hivos Southern Africa
Hosted and organized by Hivos, African Crossroads is a community of future-oriented African thinkers and doers. Since 2018 – when the African Crossroads program was launched – we have gathered every year to explore different themes that reflect the opportunities and challenges that our continent faces. We have also learned from the many experts, mentors, and peers who have shared their insights and experiences with us on topics such as technology, urbanization, Pan-Africanism, climate justice, and social impact.
As a community, we have also participated in workshops, hackathons, exhibitions, and games that challenge us to think creatively and collaboratively.
On November 21 and 22, 2023, our community of visionaries, innovators, and changemakers shaping Africa’s future will be gathering under the “Paths to Renewal” theme.
Paths to Renewal
This year’s theme aims to guide our consciousness as African thinkers, disruptors, and innovators. Our intention as we come together and exchange ideas is to reinforce the awareness of our potential and purpose. By following these “paths to renewal”, we seek to revisit our visions, values, and action plans for the future ahead.
The African Crossroads community is not only a gathering place, but a journey of awakening collective consciousness and sharing in the transformation of our members’ platforms. This edition represents another chance for various disciplines within our community to interact as we realign ourselves with our Pan-African objectives and possibilities.
Taking it to Lusaka
How can our imaginative paths contribute to bridging existing gaps in an industrious Africa? How is Africa connecting to the future ahead – where creativity, innovation, and solutions are emphasized? In Lusaka, Zambia, where this year’s edition will be hosted, we aim to advance further towards a more inclusive and diverse Africa.
At African Crossroads, we’re all about impact-driven community building that strives for sustainable development in Africa. We’re excited to see diverse disciplines within our community continue to explore innovative ideas that give shape to the story of Africa. Stay tuned and join us across our platforms – let’s pave the way forward together!
