We are looking for a skilled and proactive Technical IT Lead to manage and evolve Hivos’ global IT landscape. In this hybrid role, strategic, technical, and hands-on, you will coordinate daily operations, implement modern and secure IT solutions, and ensure consistent and high-quality experience for colleagues across all offices.
You will lead a small team composed of our Cyber Security Officer and Service Desk Engineer and will collaborate closely with regional IT staff. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical foundation, proven experience with Microsoft 365, excellent coordination skills, and a collaborative mindset that fits well in a multicultural, mission-driven environment.
A key part of this role involves coaching and developing IT colleagues, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and user-centric service delivery.
Key responsibilities
IT operations & service coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day IT support and oversee services provided by internal staff and external partners.
- Manage the global IT infrastructure, including Microsoft 365, cloud services, networking, and device management.
- Monitor SLAs, analyze incident trends, and drive continuous service improvements.
Coaching & team development
- Mentor and coach IT team members, enabling them to grow in their roles and develop technical and soft skills.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and build local IT capacity in regional offices.
- Encourage a proactive, service-oriented approach among IT colleagues.
Incident & change management
- Implement structured processes for handling incidents, service requests, and changes.
- Lead or coordinate responses to major incidents and ensure root cause analysis and documentation.
- Promote best practices around change management, risk mitigation, and user communication.
IT projects
- Lead or support IT projects such as infrastructure decommissioning, system rollouts, and automation.
- Coordinate stakeholder input, technical design, and implementation with external vendors.
- Ensure project delivery is on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational needs.
Strategy & planning
- Contribute to annual IT strategy and planning in line with Hivos’ goals.
- Support IT budgeting, procurement planning, and resource allocation.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvements.
Vendor & contract management
- Manage relationships with IT vendors, monitor performance, and evaluate contracts.
- Lead procurement or tender processes when necessary.
Governance, security & compliance
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, industry standards, and GDPR.
- Coordinate with the security officer for audits, risk assessments, and mitigation.
- Promote and monitor cybersecurity awareness across the organization.
User enablement & support
- Act as the bridge between business needs and IT solutions.
- Advise management on IT solutions to be implemented to ensure efficiency within the Hivos departments
- Lead user enablement efforts, including onboarding, training, and adoption of new tools.
- Collaborate with the Service Desk to maintain high satisfaction levels and responsiveness.
Your profile
Education & experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in IT service coordination, system administration, or technical project leadership.
- Experience in managing IT in international, decentralized environments, preferably in NGOs or nonprofit setting.
Technical skills
- Microsoft 365: Deep knowledge of the full Microsoft 365 suite, including:
- Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD).
- Experience managing security and compliance features (DLP, Conditional Access, MFA, role-based access controls).
- Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) for process automation and reporting.
- Azure Infrastructure:
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including virtual networks, storage, Azure Virtual Desktop, and role-based access.
- Experience with Azure Resource Manager, monitoring, and cost control.
- Understanding of hybrid identity setups, including Azure AD Connect and identity federation.
- IT Infrastructure:
- Experience with endpoint management using Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, and Windows configuration profiles.
- Strong knowledge of networking concepts (VPN, DNS, DHCP, firewalls) and device lifecycle management.
- Experience with infrastructure decommissioning, system migrations, and backup/restore strategies.
- Security & Compliance:
- Familiar with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, threat analytics, phishing simulations, and vulnerability management.
- Good understanding of GDPR, data protection, and security policy enforcement across distributed environments.
- IT Service Management:
- Proficient in-service desk platforms like Freshservice.
- Practical understanding of ITIL v4 principles for incident, change, and problem management.
- Automation & Scripting (nice to have):
- Experience with PowerShell and Power Automate for routine task automation and reporting.
Desirable
- Relevant certifications such as ITIL, PRINCE2, or Microsoft Certified (e.g., MS-700, MD-102, AZ-104, MS-900, or SC-900).
- Certifications or proven knowledge in information security and compliance, such as ISO/IEC 27001 Foundation, CompTIA Security+, or Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies, ideally supported by certifications like Scrum Master (PSM I or CSM) or Agile Foundation (ICP).
- Affinity with data protection, user awareness training, and security best practices.
- Demonstrated experience supporting digital transformation, cloud adoption (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure), and modern workplace
Skills
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with experience coaching team members.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical, structured, and hands-on; capable of balancing operational and strategic responsibilities.
- Proactive and flexible; comfortable working across time zones and cultural contexts.
- Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
What we offer
We offer a stimulating work environment in a professional international organization with very dedicated staff.
We offer a 1 year contract at 36 hours per week (100%) based on Hivos Global Office labour conditions. The gross salary ranges from € 3.757,56 to € 5.523,71 per month based on a 36-hour work week. Contract renewable depending on performance.
We provide a laptop and travel expenses according to our commuting policies, as well as participation in our pension fund. Hivos additionally works according to a 50/50 schedule, which means you may work from home during half of your contract hours
