The ‘Ingenious Women’ contest

June 10, 2015

To promote women’s use and development of renewable energy technologies, Hivos and the Global Gender Bureau of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) have launched the “Ingeniosas” (Ingenious Women) contest.

This initiative seeks to recognize and expand the role of women in developing and implementing clean sustainable energy solutions in Latin America.

“Ingeniosas” will support projects in the field of small-scale renewable energy developed by women – individually or in groups – during a maximum period of four months after the award.

The competition has two categories:

  • Technological Innovation, focusing on the technological development of renewable energies.
  • Social Innovation, which includes projects that use renewable energy technologies for women’s empowerment.

One submission from each category will be awarded 6,000 euros for developing the project.

The winning entries will be chosen according to the criteria in the contest rules and evaluated by a panel of three experts on gender and renewable energy.

The deadline for submitting entries online is June 30th. The winners will be announced on July 15th this year.
