Community organizing relies on building a participatory leadership, which will act for change. For this sake, people need to be involved on the long term.
How to build a participatory leadership team?
First of all, individuals who share a common goal should be determined and encouraged to join the team, without pressuring them. Once they become members, they should be mobilized and organized for the sake of being capable of acting. Finally, they should be empowered on the skills needed to achieve the common goal.
What distinguishes participatory leadership?
The characteristic of participatory leadership is that each leader creates a group of leaders that act in a participatory way. The difference is clear when you compare it with other types of leadership, in which either one person or everyone leads.
