Hivos at the Africa Climate Week

September 14, 2021

Local communities should be involved in influencing decision-making at the local level and up the chain to the global level. This is especially true for Africa’s communities, who are least responsible for climate change, but suffering most from climate impact.

Hivos will be accelerating this debate and much more on 26 September 2021 from 17:00-18:00hrs at the Africa Climate Week. The virtual side event: ‘’From -global to local- making climate finance work for local communities” brings together a variety of speakers who will be having discussions on now to make climate financing more inclusive of local communities. They will equally be using Kenya as a case study.

This side event brings together stakeholders including the African Development Bank, the Kenyan National Treasury, the Netherlands Embassy in Kenya, Rockefeller Foundation and WWF Kenya to discuss how to adapt climate-financing modalities in order to reach local communities. This conversation features discussions on how powerful actors can use innovative approaches to reduce the limitations on local communities accessing and influencing climate finance. In addition, focusing on unpacking the Principles for Locally-Led Adaptation will also be explored.
