International Open Data Day 2019 is upon us: Let’s celebrate!

February 28, 2019

Open Data Day (ODD) 2019 is right around the corner, on Saturday, 2 March 2019!  Don’t know what it is? ODD is an annual celebration of open data all over the world. For the 9th time in history, groups from around the world will create local events on the day where they will use open data in their communities. It is an opportunity to show the power of using open data for analysis, advocacy and social change. and encourage the adoption of open data policies in government, business and civil society. As in past years, Hivos is proud to be among the main supporters of Open Data Day 2019.

We are happy to be able to support 8 groups in organizing local events in the global South to engage local activists and communities in using open data for analysis and scrutiny of public money flows. With Hivos’ focus on #opencontracting and #followthemoney, we aim to engage people to join the global movement for transparency and accountability, and we are looking forward to see the outputs of our sponsored partners.

The four themes of this year’s ODD, for which there have also been mini grants awarded are: 1) Following public money flows; 2) Open mapping; 3) Open Science and 4) Equal Development. Events are happening around the world and are open to everyone interested or involved in making open data useful for social change and justice!
