Hivos, through the Regional Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Fund, commissioned a case study on evidence-based advocacy for social accountability in adolescent SRHR – a case study of SAfAIDS in Zambia. This case study is part of a series of documentation of partners’ implementation of ASRHR advocacy approaches, best practices and lessons learnt as a way to foster advocacy and programmatic cross-learning between partners and other players in the SRHR field. This initiative has been made possible with support from Sida through the Regional SRHR Team at the Embassy of Sweden in Lusaka.

The case study highlights the importance of a youth-led process for social accountability, ensuring that young people have the capacity to participate in social accountability and enabling them to effectively participate in policy and advocacy processes with policy makers,” said Gastone Zulu, SAfAIDS Zambia Country Director.

The Regional SRHR Fund will disseminate the case studies showcasing various approaches including social accountability, meaningful youth participation and strategic litigation. According to the Regional SRHR Fund Programme Manager Chivuli Ukwimi “This dissemination comes at a critical time when the Covid-19 pandemic calls for alternative ways of working and advocacy engagements, more so at a time when adolescents are most at need of ASRHR information and services”.

The case study documentation will support cross learning and knowledge sharing to enable organizations conceptualize, design and coordinate ASRHR advocacy. “Advocacy plays a key part of the Regional SRHR Fund’s work because it is one of the ways we believe that we can achieve lasting change in the lives of the adolescents”, Chivuli says.
