Join our work in the occupied Palestinian territory

The Connect, Defend, Act! program aims to counter efforts to restrict civic space by supporting civil society in three areas: coalition building, knowledge production, and collective action. Focusing on the most urgent local issues, it engages with actors best positioned to make a difference in Colombia, Indonesia, Malawi, and the occupied Palestinian territory. It works in different sectors and interests, particularly with marginalized groups. 

For our work in the occupied Palestinian territory, we’re looking for partners to implement both the Community of Action Grant as well as the Sustainable Action Fund. You will find both Terms of References below. 

1. Community of Action Grant

Hivos is looking for a dedicated partner to collaborate in strengthening cooperation, stimulate exchange, linking, learning, and building joint actions to address the challenges of shrinking civic space-time.

The primary role of Community of Action Facilitator will be to:

  • Create and maintain inclusive, rights holder-led spaces to strengthen solidarity and trust among participants
  • Facilitate activities, administer meeting logistics, and support collaboration
  • Promote local ownership while receiving strategic support from Hivos and other CDA Partners (CDA Core Group), including comparative linking and learning across contexts and external outreach to stakeholders.

Indicative activities to be explored further by partner:

  • Facilitate outreach to Civil Society Actors to build stronger cohesion
  • Support Civil Society Actors’ activities (including CDA Core Group and other engaged communities/organizations/rights holders) through co-facilitation and mentoring
  • Lead and participate in meetings and events to linking and learning, including to disseminate knowledge products

2. Sustainable Action Fund

The CDA Project supports initiatives that protect, expand, and promote open and inclusive civic space and human rights. In line with this mission, the Sustainable Action Fund (SAF) is established to provide targeted financial and technical support for community-driven and civil society-led initiatives.

The Sustainable Action Fund aims to:

  • Support initiatives that enhance civic space and resilience.
  • Promote sustainable practices tha treinforce democratic governance and human rights
  • Provide flexible funding for time-sensitive or emerging civic issues.
  • Strengthening the organizational capacity of local civil society organizations (CSOs).

Scope of the Fund. The SAF will support projects in the following thematic areas:

  • Civic engagement and public participation
  • Human rights and freedom of expression
  • Digital rights and online civic space protection
  • Genderequality and inclusion within civic spaces
