Kenya has progressively adopted policy, legal, institutional and administrative measures for transparency, public participation and accountability in public finance management. From committing to Open Government Principles and the Open Contracting Data Standards, the country has done well in enhancing transparency of public funds usage. However, corruption continues to be a major risk in public procurement impacting the quality of life of citizens when it comes to access to goods and services.
In 2021, Hivos East Africa with support from the European Union commissioned a study to assess the transparency gaps and milestones of funds allocated and utilized for COVID-19 response and recovery in Kenya. This research shares findings of how these efforts had an impact on citizens’ access to quality goods and services.
