Journeys of Courage: Niger

The Journeys of Courage: Niger booklet brings together stories that reflect how young women are shaping the future of SRHR in a context marked by high rates of teenage pregnancy, child marriage, and limited access to family planning.

Their experiences illustrate what Mariama Aboubacar Rabo emphasizes in her foreword; that real progress begins when young women from marginalized groups are placed at the center of solutions. In the booklet, you will encounter the young woman with a disability who moved past social prejudice to become a trainer and spokesperson on disability-inclusive SRHR; and the young woman living with HIV who regained her confidence and now leads awareness efforts on prevention and stigma reduction. These stories show how leadership emerges when women are given space, tools, and the chance to speak for themselves.

This booklet also highlights the collective effort behind these shifts; from the Community of Action and SongES to youth advocates and local organizations who created platforms for learning, dialogue, and advocacy. Their work has opened doors for marginalized young women to influence decisions in their communities and contribute to policy conversations that once ignored their realities. Together, the stories in these pages offer more than individual accomplishments; they show how change takes root when young women are supported to step forward, organize, and claim the rights that have long been denied to them.
