Journeys of Courage: Jordan

This booklet brings together stories that reflect the everyday realities of young women and rightsholders navigating stigma, disability, displacement, and deeply rooted social norms in Jordan.

From Irbid to Karak, and Tafilah to Amman, these narratives show how women and youth are claiming their dignity, their health, and their right to be heard. Their experiences echo what Haneen Alfayoumi expresses in her foreword; that real SRHR progress in Jordan emerges “when communities unite with openness, creativity, and courage to advance a shared vision grounded in justice and equality.” This spirit is visible in every story: in FOCCEC’s faith-based dialogues with religious leaders, in Raneen’s Sehhyat podcast bringing accessible SRHR information to persons with disabilities, and in Liwan’s Behind the Mask initiative, where youth found safe spaces to discuss gender-based violence and taboo topics through creative expression.

This booklet also honors the collective effort behind these achievements, the 14 civil society organizations that stood together as the Jordan Community of Action, the rightsholders who shared their truths, and the many partners who transformed silence into advocacy. Their work spans community-level awareness to national policy influence: from mapping safe health providers to developing inclusive curricula and strengthening institutional responsiveness through organizations like Ebni Campaign and IRCKHF.

These stories show how small initiatives grew into sustained movements, and how young women found their voices while organizations grew stronger as advocates. They invite readers to witness a transformative journey; one led by Jordanians who chose courage over silence and proved that lasting change begins when communities listen, collaborate, and lead together.
