Concerned Citizens of Abra for Good Government (CCAGG) is a community monitoring group based in Abra, one of the Philippines’ poorest provinces. Since 1987, CCAGG members have monitored construction projects in the region, built capacity in their local community through education on infrastructure issues, and empowered citizens to know their rights.
Integrity Watch Afghanistan have been using civic participation in community-based monitoring of infrastructure to collect data on infrastructure projects across the country. They use this citizen collected data to advocate for citizens rights to transparency, open contracting and better delivery management.
CoST Honduras is a transparency-focused initiative that has used civic participation to challenge and change corrupt practices in infrastructure procurement. They focus on empowering citizens through education and giving them channels to hold the government to account. Key to this has been the introduction of their open data platform for infrastructure projects: SISOCS.
CoST Malawi has effectively engaged the media to reach out to citizens, and also to provide them with a platform for participation. They use their status as a “big brother” of infrastructure in Malawi to lobby the government for transparency reforms.
