About MENA

The MENA programme of Hivos contributes to political, societal and economic processes that aim at societal transformation to pluralist and democratic societies with respect for human rights and equal opportunities for all citizens. It collaborates with a variety of stakeholders including citizen activists, creative entrepreneurs, coworking spaces and alternative financial mechanisms such as crowd funding and investments.

Job context

From 2016 until 2020, Hivos is implementing the five-year Women Empowered for Leadership (WE4L) Program, promoting women’s political participation and leadership development in Southern Africa and the Middle East (see womeninleadership.hivos.org). For this program, Hivos has the vacancy of Project Officer.

Your responsibilities

  • Implementation of the WE4L programme in Lebanon;
  • Identification and selection of partners (individuals and organizations) to be involved in the programme;
  • Management of the relationship (including contracts and reporting obligations) with selected partners and other stakeholders in the programme in Lebanon;
  • Organization and implementation of Hivos interventions within the context of this programme in Lebanon;
  • Registration of contacts, contracts and interventions in Hivos project administration;
  • Preparation of draft narrative and financial reports on the programme for the financier(s) and other internal and external stakeholders;
  • Representation of the WE4L programme in the MENA region and contribution to external communication about the program.

All aforementioned responsibilities are implemented in close cooperation with the Project Manager of the “Women Empowered for Leadership” Programme, based in The Hague and with other colleagues in this programme in Beirut and The Hague.

You are overall answerable to the Director MENA programme at Hivos and for programmatic content to the Global Programme Manager Women Empowered for Leadership.

Your profile

You have a university degree in Political Science, Gender and Women’s Studies or another relevant discipline for a women’s rights and empowerment programme. You have proven experience with projects related to political and societal developments in the MENA region in general and Lebanon in particular. You are well organized, independent, decisive and energetic. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and working attitude, affinity with project management and financial administration. Finally, we expect you to have good communication and social interaction skills both verbally and in writing in English and in Arabic.

What we offer

We offer a stimulating work environment in a professional international organization with very dedicated staff. Employment is offered as soon as possible for the period of one year with possible extension for a longer period. Depending on your experience and skills your salary will be in accordance with salary scale 11 of the Hivos Lebanon Office. Travel costs are compensated in accordance with internal regulations and legal requirements. You will be subscribed to NSSF and a health insurance package is offered.
