Over the past five years, we have supported nearly 5,000 women energy entrepreneurs through the ENERGIA network’s partners in Africa and Asia. With their sustainable businesses, these women work to create a better future for their families, their communities and the climate. But all of that is endangered by the corona pandemic. With your support, we can help them get through this crisis.
Thousands of women who had healthy and sustainable businesses are now at risk of losing everything. Their sales – and therefore their revenues – have plummeted. In the absence of a social security net, their businesses may not survive, meaning their incomes and livelihoods are at stake.
How Hivos is going to help
We have set up a Solidarity Fund to partially compensate their loss in income. Amounts range up to a few hundred euros, which may not seem like much, but it makes a world of difference for these entrepreneurs.
In addition, we’re helping them adapt their businesses to the new circumstances. For example, by purchasing a smartphone so they can easily keep in touch with customers and suppliers. This way they can get back to business again as quickly as possible.
Why support for these women is important
They have dared to start a business in countries where the gap between men and women is huge. By taking matters into their own hands, they break through inequality and set an example for women and girls in their communities. And because they sell renewable energy products, they also contribute to a cleaner environment.
Will you join us?
These women are indispensable to the fight against gender inequality and climate change. They deserve to be helped now. With a donation of just 50 euros you will help a woman get through an entire month. Can they count on your support?
With the ENERGIA program, we’ve helped nearly 5,000 female entrepreneurs start and run renewable energy businesses in five countries. We do this through our partners: Practical Action, CRT-Nepal, Energy 4 Impact and Solar Sister.
